B. Keith Trent, Group Executive and Chief Strategy, Policy and Regulatory Officer, Duke Energy
Keith Trent is Group Executive and Chief Strategy, Policy and Regulatory Officer for Duke Energy. He is responsible for strategy, federal policy and government affairs, energy efficiency and technology initiatives, environmental health and safety policy, corporate communications, and sustainability and community affairs. In addition, Trent has oversight of the regulated utility companies in five states – Duke Energy Carolinas, Duke Energy Indiana, Duke Energy Ohio and Duke Energy Kentucky. He was named to his current position in April 2007.
He joined Duke Energy in May 2002 as general counsel for litigation. He was responsible for managing all major litigation and government investigations for the enterprise. The labor and employment, as well as environmental, health and safety legal teams reported to Trent. He was named Group Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary in June 2005.
Trent has more than 18 years of experience as an accomplished counselor, with a focus on energy law. He previously served as a partner in the law firm Snell, Brannian & Trent, since October 1991. Prior to that, he was an attorney at Jackson Walker in Dallas, Texas. He began his career as a reservoir/production engineer with Arco Oil & Gas in Houston in January 1982.
He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, with honors, from Southern Methodist University and earned a juris doctor degree, with high honors, from the University of Texas College of Law. Trent is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Texas, as well as numerous federal district courts, and the United States Supreme Court. Trent is a member of the American Bar Association and various other state and local bar associations.
Trent serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers, the board of visitors at the Wake Forest University Babcock Graduate School of Management and is a member of The Keystone Energy Board.
A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Trent was born in 1959. He and his wife, Lucy, have two sons.

Clive Mather, Former President and CEO, Shell Canada
A career of 38 years with Shell has spanned all of its major businesses, including assignments in Brunei, Canada, Gabon, South Africa, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Clive Mather was appointed President & CEO of Shell Canada Limited on August 1, 2004. Shell Canada is a major integrated oil and gas company, with operations across Canada. Until recently it was a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange with major businesses in Exploration & Production, Oil Sands and Oil Products. Under his leadership the Company embarked on an ambitious growth strategy, leveraging its considerable hydrocarbon, financial and human resources. The company has maintained an overarching commitment to Sustainable Development and Clive has been a prominent advocate of the need for business leadership on environmental issues.
Clive writes and speaks internationally on values, leadership and corporate social responsibility (CSR). In his career he always sought to focus on strategic purpose, communications and leadership for good. In the UK, Clive is a member of the Royal Anniversary Trust, the Relationships Foundation and the British North America Committee. He was previously on the board of directors of the C.D. Howe Institute in Canada and a director of Placer Dome Inc. based in Vancouver until its takeover in January 2006. He has previously held many public appointments in the United Kingdom including chairman of the U.K. CSR Academy and the Lambeth Education Action Zone. He was a commissioner for the Equal Opportunities Commission, deputy chairman of the Windsor Leadership Trust and chairman of Lensbury Limited. He also chaired the Advisory Council of the IMD Business School in Switzerland.
Clive is 59 and married with three children. Educated in England, he won scholarships to Warwick School and Lincoln College, Oxford. He now lives with his wife and their two dogs in Guildford, Surrey having handed over responsibility for Shell Canada to Royal Dutch Shell in June. He has a range of Christian responsibilities, is a keen sportsman and enjoys good food and wine. He is a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
